I am a bit obsessed. I did a personality assessment and apparently I have a very high interest score.

I have been into computers for a long time. Then crypto came along. I ignored it, then got a bit obsessed, then it was over. Almost over. Now AI and AI governance is here and I am AI-fuelled obsessed. I cannot do small talk. Five seconds in, guess what the topic is. I try hard to relate to other things. Fishing. Hunting. Camping. I also happened to pick up a good obsession: I now go to the gym at the ungodly hour of five in the morning. I stood in a line to get in.

I did the personality assessment expecting it to tell me I should be running a startup. It told me I am better suited to corporate. That was a revelation. And probably obvious to everyone who has watched me navigate large organisations for twenty years.

I am obsessed with getting people enabled with AI.

Last week I had four conversations in one day that showed me how wide the spectrum actually is.

The first was with a friend who is fully innovating with AI in finance and governance. Not waiting for permission. Building.

The second was with another finance professional, still early in their exploration. Good questions. Genuine curiosity. Finding his footing.

The third was with someone who works in a large organisation where people get fired for using AI. The CEO does not use it. So nobody does. They have not even started.

The fourth was with my brother, who spends his time talking to people who get it. Who understand that an expert with AI is not just faster. They are operating at a different level entirely. The x100 is not about speed. It is about what becomes possible.

Four conversations. Four entirely different worlds. All on the same day. And in South Africa there are people who do not know AI exists at all.
