What business process can AI genuinely not assist with?

The comfortable answer is the moment itself. The difficult conversation. The sales relationship built over years. The professional judgement call that has your name on it. You have to be there for those.

But you still prepare. You still take notes. You still summarise, follow up, and plan the next step. AI can assist with all of it, and the quality of what you bring to that moment improves as a result. The engineer who has to account for structural loads still has to understand them. AI can assist with that understanding, the options analysis, and the documentation. The judgement is still yours. The work around it does not have to be.

The honest answer: the category is essentially empty. For most white collar work, and a great deal of blue collar work, AI can assist and the outcome improves.

Which means the useful question is not what AI cannot do. It is what you have not tried yet.

The ceiling for what you can accomplish is higher than you think. Whether you reach it depends on who is doing the testing. Good to Great said it plainly: it starts with who is in the room.
